American exceptionalism is just an excuse to be stupid, to claim that it’s awesome to pay 16% of your GDP for shitty health care, to dream of tall buildings and missions to Mars, to worry that East Asians are laughing at us, to rock out to Lee Greenwood as we act as “the world’s policeman”.

Loudly, angrily, and repeatedly insisting — in the face of evidence to the contrary — that your country is THE BEST EVER IN THE WORLD SO SHUT UP does not make it so. Investing in education and actually putting the best interests of the People ahead of the Oligarchs would certainly be a big step toward *making* it exceptional, though.
